The Pu‘unene Sugar Mill was built in 1901, and was the last operating sugar mill on the Hawaiian
islands. One of 27 sugar mills built, this one ran continuously until December of 2016.
Built by the Hawaiian Commercial & Sugar Company, the mill covered 15 acres
and farmed 36,000 acres of sugar cane on the island of Maui.
